A – Open

Declan Shafi (2222) is competing in the A-Open in the Sparkassen Chess Trophy event 2022. There are a number of events going on including a “No Castling” tournament! The event is an online tournament organised in Germany. It is a European nine rounds Swiss, with a round a day.

Declan is ranked 56^th out of 185 competitors! The event has 7 GM`s; 9 IM`s & 25 FM`s (approx) so a very strong tournament with the highest at 2634 down to 1963.

UPDATE – Thurs 21^st July 22 – 10:40am
Declan with white drew his 5^th round match against Patrick Bossinger (2017) of Germany, putting him on 2½ points. This places Declan in 75^th place before tie-break, and 89^th after tie-break.

Today in round 6 of 9 and with black he faces Alexander Bose (1998) again from Germany.
