FIDE Candidates Chess 2022 kicks off today in Madrid and the tension among players and spectators grow. Fabiano Caruana explained at the Opening Press Conference: “The tension of this tournament is only surpassed by the world championship match”. And how does it feel to win the Candidates Tournament? Everything is explained in one photo shared by @Olympiuurcan (see below), showing Magnus Carlsen after a victory in the rollercoaster Candidates in London back in 2013. We have not had such contested Candidates since London 2013, and the 2022 event brings records before the event even starts.
