Test Your Tactical Imagination

0 9

The following position arose in a game played by one of my younger, less experienced students.*

White (to move) has an extra pawn and a beautiful knight on d5, but that knight is also an endangered creature as Black threatens to win it with ...Bc8-e6xd5. White must also take ...e4 ideas into consideration, attacking the knight on f3 and the rook on a1, and if White replies with Nd4 then ...Rxd5 is possible. So White has some problems to solve.

There are two acceptable moves. The simplest way to go is 21.Qd2 Be6 22.Rad1, when Black is somewhat better after 22...Rac8. But there is better. Can you find it? The solution is here.
