Oh what a night as 13 players battled it out in the final Quick-Play Grand Prix night to decide who will be the winner on the night and who will be the overall champion after all 5 events!
On paper it looked like all Andre Babin had to do was turn up, but that’s not André’s style! This was a strong field with defending champion Andy Rowe, Andre Babin, Euan Murray, Richard Kynoch, Jan Barron Majerik and of course the ever tricky Subhayu Banerjee to name but a few. The rest of the field including 3 juniors were no slouches!
It’s strange how fate works sometimes as both the leader, Andre Babin and the defending champion, Andy Rowe both finished joint first on 6½ points! Both did it a different way with Andre losing to Euan Murray and drawing with Andy Rowe, while Andy finished unbeaten after drawing with Andre, Ray Noble and Jan Barron Majerik! Going into the last round both Andy & Andre had to win, any slip ups and others (Euan Murray!) were ready to pip them to the top spot! Class shows when the pressure is on and both players handled themselves with style!
The ever consistent at this time-control, Euan Murray finished in runner-up place on 6 points after losing to Andy Rowe and Richard Kynoch.
The top junior on the night was Max Whisson J16 on 4 points. This was a fantastic achievement in such a strong field. Well played Max!

Congratulations to Andre Babin after his joint win tonight; he extended his lead at the top of the Grand Prix table to be crowned the “Castlehill Quick-Play Grand Prix Champion 2021-22” on 23½ points! His nearest rival, Euan Murray finished in runner-up spot on 17½ points, with Jan Barron Majerik taking third place on 15 points. Defending champion Andy Rowe despite his joint win tonight could only finish in 6th place overall.
Thank you to all the players that supported this event over the 5 nights and made it the success it has been. Congratulations to all the podium finishers’ especially the champion Andre Babin!
