CASTLEHILL WEEKLY QUICK-PLAY EVENT

Thurs 29th July 21 – Arena 61 – 8:10pm to 9:10pm

Time-Control – 2 minutes bullet!

This week back by popular demand by our juniors we had the 3rd 2 minute bullet event which attracted 15 players! Normally our quick-play competitions last 90 minutes, but this type of time-control is so fast and nerve racking, we played it over 60 minutes instead so not to over-tax our over 25`s too much!

It not so much about who plays the best chess, more who holds their nerve and manages their time better and trusts to a lot of calculated luck!

Congratulations to Oggy Kolev (Oggy, Oggy, Oggy!) on winning the event by just two points on 26 points. This is Oggy`s first podium place in the 2 minute bullet but he seemed very at home with this time-control! Well played Oggy!

Euan Murray, Andy Rowe and Jan Barron Majerik all finished equal runner-up to Oggy on 24 points! Euan and Andy have finished in a podium spot before both in third place, so an improvement this time for both players! What a superhuman battle between these players in a format that can be unforgiving! Well played!

Graham Mooney on 18 points took the last podium place in 3rd. You can`t keep an old dog done. Well played indeed Graham!

Max Whisson and Josh Dickson both finished equal top juniors on 14 points, the first time either player has landed a podium spot in the 2 minute bullet! Max knows how to handle his time well in this format as he always seemed to have over a minute left while I was down to my last few seconds, unbelievable!

Thank you to all the players that took part this time and once again congratulations to all our podium finishers!

We will do it all again next week, but do I “Stick” or do I “Twist”? Who cares just bring it on!
