TAFCA WINTER LEAGUE ONLINE 2020-21
Tues 23rd Feb 21, 7:30pm – Lichess

Division Two

Two matches, both against our City rivals, Dundee Chess Club teams! A lot on this week so the reports on the matches are in shorthand this week!

Results

Dundee D ½, Castlehill F 3½

Congratulations to high flying Castlehill F who despite the loss of their captain and our Club Secretary, Trevor Harley won in fine style! Trevor is recovering in Ninewells Hospital from pneumonia. I am sure I speak for all players in both clubs in the City of Dundee, in wishing him a speedy recovery!

This was a tough challenge against Dundee D, but Castlehill F team players handled it very well indeed with what looks a comfortable score line. Cameron Wilson (Brd 1) got a grand master draw against Alan Woodcock, while Jim McCluskey (Brd 2), Gordon Thomas (Brd 3) & Marten Kats (Brd 4) all won their matches. Some were easier than others, but crossing that winning line is all that counts in the end! Well played everyone! That keeps Castlehill F firmly in 2nd place on 9 points in division two behind current league leaders Castlehill E who are on ten points with a game in hand!

Dundee E 2, Castlehill H 2

This was one of those good away results but a tad disappointing as Castlehill H had a few call offs that weakened the side. Still given that, it was not a loss and points have been added to the league table it’s all good! Kit McEvoy Gould (Brd 1) won against the tricky Christine Sim who’s biggest weakness is time! Arthur Grant (Brd 2) lost to Henri Meadows, while Josh Dickson J10 (Brd 3) excelled against Peter Gibson to get a deserved victory! Noah Dickson J8 (Brd 4), put up a good fight against 1.h4 expert, Scot McKenzie, but experience win the day, just!

This draw moves Castlehill H (the only “H” team in both divisions!) up to 5th place on 6 points in this division which is punching well above their weight! The “H” team have a big pool, mostly juniors and beginners, but that is where the foundations for the future of Castlehill Chess Club Dundee is being laid!
