Jorge Cori wins the Ibero-American Championship 2019
Peruvian GM Jorge Cori has been crowned the winner of the VII Ibero-American Championship 2019, held in Linares (Spain), during August 10-18. Cori, who was the top-seeded player, reached the last round trailing the leaders -Francisco Vallejo and Carlos Daniel Albornoz- by half a point. But while they made a draw in the last round, the Peruvian young talent achieved the victory in a must-win situation and leapfrogged them to the top of the table thanks to a better tie-break. Sabrina Vega, from Spain, finished in 17th place, a result that gave her the gold medal for the best woman.
