In round 1 there were eight matches, of which two went to tiebreaks. Now, in round 2, three of the four matches are going to tiebreaks. Go figure. The only player moving straight to round 3 is Radoslaw Wojtaszek, who defeated Peter Svidler.
We may (or may not) take a look back at the first round of this knockout event, but let's at least report on round 2, which started today/yesterday (Monday). The first round halved the field to a final eight, and day 1 of saw all four games finish in short draws.
The second round of the Moscow Grand Prix began with four draws on Monday, though there were several pitched battles. Since the Grand Prix is using a knockout format, all competitors will face each other on Tuesday in the second half of their mini-matches.
