County Match Programme 2017-18

Double disappointment

ECF U180 SF: Yorks 9½-6½ Essex
At Syston. Now we know how Notts felt. This encounter was an almost identical story-line to the Essex U180 QF v Notts, but the boot was on the other foot. Essex went into a two point lead with five games still in play at 6½-4½. Essex, alas, scored no more points as Yorks the last five games to book their place in the Final. To be fair, the last two Essex players knew at that point that they had to win, when perhaps two draws or a win and a draw would be a better reflection of the play. Congratualtions to Yorks, who take on Warks in the Final. So Gavin bows out with a national Championship and a national Semi-Final in three seasons; we await to learn who will take this team on.

Other match: Middx 7½-8½ Warks

ECF U140 SF: Notts 9½-6½ Essex
At Peterborough. Essex finally meet their match. With a 100% record up to this point, the Essex U140 squad went down fighting to a Notts team which had the edge on grades. So a splendid season ends at the Semi-Final stage and Charlton and his players can be proud of what they have achieved: SCCU Champions and national Semi-Finalists. Congratulations to Notts, who meet Yorks in the Final.

Other match: Yorks 9½-6½ Worcs

Essex has two more chances to reach a final in tomorrow's double-header in Spondon, near Derby. The U160 team and the U100 team both contest a Sem-Final against Lancs.
