Truist Championship Weather Delay: New Start Time

0 1

The first round of the Truist Championship, the final signature event for the PGA Tour before the PGA Championship next week, is off to a rocky start.

On Wednesday ahead of the tournament, the PGA Tour announced tee times would be altered due to inclement weather in the forecast.

"Due to impending inclement weather in Thursday’s forecast, tee times for the first and second round of the Truist Championship will be adjusted to approximately 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. ET in groups of three off Nos. 1 and 10," an announcement from the PGA Tour's communications department said.

But that's not all.

New Weather Delay for Truist Championship

Just two hours before the start of the tournament, the PGA Tour announced that the first round of the tournament is delayed even further.

"Due to heavy rain, the first round of the Truist Championship is delayed one hour and is now scheduled to run from Noon – 2:01 p.m. ET in groups of three off Nos. 1 and 10," the PGA Tour's communications department said.

That might just be the beginning of the bad news for the tournament, though. An updated weather forecast shows the rain will continue throughout the day and an increased chance of thunderstorms arrives around noon.

"Periods of rain and a few thunderstorms are expected at times today," the weather forecast started. "The risk of thunderstorms is low in the morning, increasing some for the afternoon, highest chance between 12-6 pm. Winds will be breezy from the southwest, with gusts to 25-30 mph, strongest near the ocean."

The PGA Tour issued an updated forecast and delayed the tee times an additional 30 minutes.

The first tee times of the day are now scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET with Mackenzie Hughes, Alex Smalley and Taylor Pendrith going off of No. 1 and Lucas Glover, Kristoffer Reitan and Sudarshan Yellamaraju going off of No. 10.

Given the forecast for the rest of the day it seems unlikely the full round will be played on Thursday.
