Central and Eastern US to Get Pummeled With Severe Storms --- What To Expect for the Next Few Days

0 1

April showers bring...May showers? The first full week of the month will be quite eventful for parts of the country, particularly through midweek. AccuWeatherreports that the central and eastern US will experience severe storms. The areas facing the brunt of this extreme weather extend from "the Rio Grande River in central Texas to western Kentucky and southern Illinois."

Expect more humid air to move into the southeastern third of the US, laying the groundwork for storms on Tuesday night. Those in the inclement-weather areas should brace themselves for thunderstorms, hail, strong winds, and tornadoes. However, folks in northeastern Texas through northern Arkansas and southwestern Tennessee should prepare for a more concentrated tornado threat. If you're in parts of the country extending from northwestern Arkansas to southern Missouri, expect "an elevated risk of localized flash flooding."

AccuWeather shares that north-central and northeastern Pennsylvania, through northern New England, can also expect severe thunderstorms into Tuesday night. Furthermore, Northeastern residents will be on the receiving end of damaging winds and hail.

Wednesday will bring about more warm, humid air as it circulates through the Southeast. You can expect showers and thunderstorms to crop up from southeastern Texas to eastern New England. However, Texas to southern Tennessee may experience more severe weather, with northern Louisiana to north Mississippi getting the brunt of it. The strongest storms will usher in hail, flash flooding, tornadoes, and strong wind gusts.

On Thursday, the Northeast coast of the US will experience rain showers, with humid air stoking the fires of severe thunderstorms "from southern Louisiana to central and eastern North Carolina." AccuWeather reports that the main concern on Thursday is torrential downpours and powerful winds.

While the rain will certainly alleviate drought conditions in parts of the country, there's also an increased risk of flash flooding. Parts of Arkansas and Missouri on Tuesday, along with the stretch from Louisiana to eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina on Wednesday into Thursday, can expect potential flooding.
