Jason Day Forced to Change His Outfit Before the Masters—Here’s Why
PGA Tour veteran Jason Day made his 15th career appearance at Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday, playing his first round at the 2026 Masters Tournament.
As he typically does, Day arrived at the course with a polarizing outfit.
Day is well known for pushing the boundaries of golf fashion. And this Masters week, he's certainly furthering that reputation.
Day, a Malbon sponsored golfer, wore a hoodie scattered with images of birds native to Georgia. He originally planned to wear pants with a matching pattern, but the Augusta National Golf Club denied his request earlier this week.
Instead, Day wore a pair of solid green pants.

Day's hoodie, part of Malbon's "Birds of Georgia" apparel line, was inspired by the local birds of Augusta National Golf Club.
"If you are on the course and you are tuned in with nature and know the sounds of birds, you'll make more birdies," company founder Stephen Malbon told Sports Illustrated. "It's inspired by Native American beliefs. Each one of these birds has a different meaning. I've been sending the noises of the birds to Jason for the last six months. Hopefully, he's trying to stay in touch with nature."
Day signed on as Malbon Golf's first brand ambassador in 2024. At the 2024 Masters, tournament officials asked him to remove a flashy vest during the middle of his second round.
Day finished his first round with a 3-under 69. He's currently tied with Kurt Kitayama, Patrick Reed and Justin Rose in third place, trailing tournament leaders Sam Burns and Rory McIlroy.
Day's best finish at the Masters came when he was the runner-up in 2011.
