Olympic Gold Medalist Hangs Up Her Skates For Now
Olympic figure skating champion Alysa Liu is hanging up her skates, for now. She withdrew from the world championships later this month.
Liu would have performed alongside Amber Glenn and Isabeau Levito when the event kicks off March 24 in Prague. This move provides an opportunity to Sarah Everhardt, who will take her place on the US team, according to ESPN.
It’s not unusual for Olympic athletes to skip the world championships after competing and winning gold. The season is a long slog for many, and then they can start their off-season training earlier.
Liu, 20, came out of retirement to compete in the Olympics and slayed with her fashion choices, piercing, and happy-go-luck attitude.
She enjoys her celebrity status, appearing on The Today Show and The Tonight Show Featuring Jimmy Fallon.
