New Winter Storm Warnings Announced After Over 40 Inches of Snow, 80 mph Winds
Just a few weeks ago the West Coast was rocked by a much-needed winter storm that brought over 15 feet of snow to some mountains in California. Nevada and Utah were also hit hard by the storm, with both receiving several feet of snow while battling crippling winds in the process - up to 80 mph.
Utah ski resort Alta revealed it had to close its doors for the day after receiving too much snow. "Thank you for your patience while our teams work through this storm event that has delivered 41 inches and counting," Alta wrote on social media at the time. "We will try again tomorrow."
Fast forward to early March and both Nevada and Utah are once again facing significant snowfall.
National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Warning for Nevada, Utah
The National Weather Service issued a new set of winter storm warnings for both Nevada and Utah as the states brace for nearly a foot of snow.
"A strong storm system and fast-moving cold front is set to develop and cross the western U.S. mid to late week. This system will bring gusty winds and mountain snowfall to much of the region," it revealed. "Heavy snow is possible in most mountain ranges spanning from the Cascades to the central Rockies, along with the potential for low elevation snowfall following the cold frontal passage. As the storm ejects eastward into the central Plains, additional bouts of severe weather are likely Thursday and Friday."
Nevada: Total snow accumulations up to three inches along Mountain City Highway and up to seven inches in Jarbidge Wilderness Area. Meanwhile, the Ruby Mountains are expected to see the most significant snowfall with up to 11 inches expected and strong winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
Utah: Several locations including Brian Head will receive up to nine inches of snow while locally higher amounts near Park City will jump over 10 inches, according to the latest data from the National Weather Service. Powder revealed Alta could be hit with as much as two feet of snow in the coming days.
