TikTok Issues New Statement on Continued 'Technical Issues'

0 10

Over the weekend, TikTok users in the United States began to notice technical issues and apparent outages. TikTok has since confirmed those issues, but it sounds like they have still not quite been resolved.

On Tuesday, TikTok's new joint U.S. entity provided a bit of an update as the app continues to address the "technical issues" plaguing the app.

TikTok Confirms Issues

Over the weekend, users began complaining that their "for you" pages were showing old or irrelevant content, comments were not loading correctly, and new videos were not being shown to wide audiences, sometimes getting just a handful of views.

This came just a few days after the creation of a separate U.S. TikTok entity, which was mandated by the U.S. government due to concerns about the Chinese government potentially accessing user data via the app’s former parent company, ByteDance.

In a statement on Monday, TikTok's new U.S. joint venture confirmed some issues as a result of a "power outage" at a U.S. data center and that it hoped the issue would be resolved "soon."

"Since yesterday we've been working to restore our services following a power outage at a U.S. data center impacting TikTok and other apps we operate," the company wrote in a statement on Monday via X. "We're working with our data center partner to stabilize our service. We're sorry for this disruption and hope to resolve it soon."

Still Not Resolved

More than a day after its initial statement, TikTok issued an update indicating that while it has been working to correct the problem, many U.S. users might still experience "technical issues."

"We've made significant progress in recovering our U.S. infrastructure with our U.S. data center partner. However, the U.S. user experience may still have some technical issues, including when posting new content. We're committed to bringing TikTok back to its full capacity as soon as possible. We'll continue to provide updates. Thanks for your patience," TikTok's new U.S. venture wrote in a post on X.

It's not clear when the app will return to full functionality, but it has now been dealing with these issues for multiple days.
