Netflix Quietly Dropping Popular Crime Drama After Only 6 Months
Netflix will be dropping more than 100 titles from its library in January, both movies and television shows. One show that will disappear next month will do so after only a short stay on the platform.
What's On Netflix's Kasey Moore reported that Hightown, a crime drama series that premiered on Starz in 2020, will be removed from Netflix in the coming weeks after only six months on the streaming service.
When will 'Hightown' be leaving Netflix?
According to Moore, Hightown's final day on Netflix will be Jan. 23, 2026, six months to the day of its debut on July 23, 2025. All three seasons (25 episodes) have been available and will now be removed.
"The departure is notable because Hightown comes from creator Rebecca Cutter, who was behind one of the most unlikely hits for Netflix in 2025," Moore writes. "Cutter, for those unfamiliar, is the showrunner and creator behind The Hunting Wives, the soapy thriller originally bound for Starz starring Malin Åkerman and Brittany Snow that dominated the Netflix charts when it premiered and promptly got a season 2 renewal at Netflix alongside a global rollout, which is mostly complete."
Based in Cape Cod, Hightown stars Monica Raymund as Jackie Quiñones, a National Marine Fisheries Service agent with a penchant for partying. When Quiñones discovers the body of a local woman, she becomes involved in a murder investigation, as well as a probe into local opioid abuse.
Riley Voelkel, James Badge Dale, Dohn Norwood, Shane Harper and Amaury Nolasco also have major roles.
What kind of reviews did 'Hightown' receive?
Hightown's first season, which ran for eight episodes from May-July 2020, earned an 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The season also scored a 62 ("Generally Favorable") rating from Metacritic.
"Hightown loses some of its momentum in later episodes — the story bogs down a bit and the pieties about addiction and taking control of your life move more into the foreground," said Mike Hale of the New York Times. "But it never entirely loses its flavor. It’s good enough that if it were a little better — a little quirkier, a little more urgent — there’d be nothing to complain about, and that’s pretty good."
On IMDB, Hightown is rated 6.9/10 with more than 9,000 fan reviews calculated.
