Travis Kelce Inadvertently Triggers Standoff After His Final Chiefs Home Game of Season

Travis Kelce drew headlines before the Kansas City Chiefs took the field at Arrowhead Stadium to host the Denver Broncos in an AFC West matchup.

There was speculation that Thursday's game on Christmas Day would mark his final home game for the legendary tight end. Naturally, the growing speculation meant that the three-time Super Bowl champion would be even more in the spotlight.

Kelce Was Visibly Emotional

That was clearly evident even before kickoff, when cameras zoomed in on the 36-year-old appearing to soak in every moment during the playing of the national anthem. Kelce looked visibly emotional as he scanned the stadium before gathering himself.

During the game, announcers Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit couldn't stop singing Kelce's praises as one of the greats. They also wondered aloud if they were paying witness to Kelce's final home game of his storied career.

The Chiefs, who had already been eliminated from playoff contention, lost on primetime to the AFC West-leading Broncos. After the game ended, cameras zoomed in on Kelce's fiancée, Taylor Swift, as she looked on from her suite.

Kelce's mom, Donna, also soaked it all in, watching her son interact on the field in what was possibly Kelce's final home game ever.

The Awkward Standoff

The camera later cut to Kelce walking into the tunnel as he headed to the Chiefs' locker room. The Prime cameraman fully intended to follow Kelce to the locker room, but he was abruptly stopped from proceeding.

If you watch and listen, two Chiefs staffers appear to pump the brakes on the cameraman, who apparently committed a foul by trying to follow Kelce. Even the announcer, Al Michaels, was befuddled at what had just transpired, and fans immediately noticed as the intense standoff streamed live on Prime.

No word yet if Kelce's officially calling it a career. The Chiefs still have two games left, giving Kelce at least two more weeks to ponder his decision.

After the game, Kelce was specifically asked if there were any extra emotions. He played coy.

"Yeah, it's a Christmas game, baby. There's a whole lot of emotions," Kelce said with a smirk. "Man, to have everybody in the world watching ya. You get to go out there with a young guy like [Chiefs backup QB] Chris Oladokun, primetime television, excited for him, excited for the guys around us. A lot of young guys getting opportunities to taste what this NFL life on a big stage feels like. I just wanted to get out there and get a win for those guys."
