Why This Stranger Things Character May Not Survive the Big Showdown

Thanks to a recent interview that the Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer did with Jimmy Fallon, fans of the hit Netflix series have been spiraling, thinking about the possibility that the beloved Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) has a doomed fate awaiting him.

On the episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the late-night host brought out Funko Pop action figures representing the characters of the sci-fi series and asked the brothers to hint what happens with each character by arranging them on his desk. Fans couldn’t help but notice that the figure representing Steve was placed on the edge of Fallon’s desk, and took that to mean Steve is likely a goner.

However, there are those Stranger Things fans who think the Duffer brothers are creating a diversion of sorts. While Steve may find himself in grave danger and may even have a brush with death, it’s another major character who likely meets a dramatic end. As someone in this camp of fans, allow me to propose that the character I strongly believe to be one that won’t survive the epic fight with Vecna.

Is Will Most Likely to Die?

Yep, you read correctly. Despite Will (Noah Schnapp) emerging in Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1 as a powerhouse player, becoming a “sorcerer” and the ultimate tracker of Vecna,  I can’t help but think he’s about to have a hero’s death. After all, he’s the only one able to tap into the hive mind of Vecna and control the demogorgons (without even being near them). Despite all the power Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) possesses, she can’t even do that, meaning Will is arguably the most powerful person on the show.

Looking to the world of Marvel for a moment, fans will recall that Thanos was the villain of all villains in the Avengers cinematic series, and it took the death of the one and only Tony Stark, aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), to defeat him. It’s not too far-fetched to believe that Will may face a similar future.

From a storyline perspective, Will dying to save his family and friends is poetic in the sense that they’ve given up so much and nearly lost their lives to save him more than once in five seasons. Additionally, now that Will is somewhat of a bad a**, his going out in a blaze of glory would be a great departure from being the show’s “weakest link.”
