Surprise Free 'Hollow Knight: Silksong' DLC Announced
Team Cherry continues to march to the beat of its own drum, not making announcements around major events or typical marketing schedules. Just days after The Game Awards 2025, a new DLC has been announced for Hollow Knight: Silksong. The best part? It's free.
The Sea of Sorrow expansion has been announced for the game, accompanied by a brief teaser trailer. The roughly 40-second trailer gives a brief look at what appears to be new environments. Water, rain, snow, thunder, and lightning are all featured.
The official description taken from the teaser's YouTube upload reads: "Voyage across and beneath the salt-stricken seas in this thrilling expansion, free for all players."
Hollow Knight: Silksong was released to critical acclaim just a few months ago, on September 4, so a free DLC expansion announcement coming this soon is likely to be quite surprising for fans. Notably, virtually every digital store, including the PlayStation Store, Steam, and the Nintendo eShop crashed for multiple minutes when Silksong released.
Team Cherry made the following statement regarding Sea of Sorrow: “Hornet’s adventures continue in our nautically themed expansion, coming free for all players next year. We’ll keep further details a secret for now, but expect additional info shortly before Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow releases.”
No other information has been made available yet about the expansion's contents, length, or release date. Players can likely expect new thrilling boss encounters and tools, as well.
Hollow Knight: Silksong - Sea of Sorrow will release sometime in 2026.
