The One Weird Reasons Jason Momoa Is Obsessed With 'Street Fighter'
When Jason Momoa emerges with green skin and a massive mane of orange hair in Street Fighter, he'll be fulfilling a childhood dream. The actor has always wanted to play the character of Blanka, and, alongside a killer cast, he'll be bringing that memorable Street Fighter character to life. But, in our recent interview with Momoa, he revealed that his Street Fighter fixation is probably connected to the fact that he wasn't actually allowed to have video games at home as a kid. And so, his obsession was likely created because of the fact that the game was, in a sense, elusive.
"My mom raised me with no video games," Momoa tells Men's Journal. "It was always a sneaky thing that I loved. I’d go to a friend’s house to play Street Fighter. Or go to the arcade to play Street Fighter."
Momoa also told us that being in Street Fighter let him work with one of his "buddies" Andrew Schulz, who is playing Dan Hibiki in the movie. "He's a great actor," Momoa says. "I've been buddies with Schulz for awhile, but he's great in this."
Would Momoa have been as into Street Fighter had it not been a kind of fordbidden fruit growing up? Momoa puts it like this: "When you get to a certain age, you go buy all the toys you were never allowed to have."
