So as well as being the final weekend in the British Canoeing 'Go Canoeing' week, the first weekend in June is also the date for both the Riverside Festival in Leicester and the Paddle In The Park event at Holme pierpont White water centre in Nottingaham.

Leicester Riverside Festival:

Now in its 22nd year, returns on the first weekend in June. Spread over four areas this free two-day festival features fun on and off the water.

Bede Park will feature family activities including a fun fair, food stalls, arts & crafts, beer tent, acoustic music stage and lots of join in activities, whilst on the Piazza area our large music stage will feature great live bands and music for all ages.

Western Boulevard sees the return of the hugely popular street market with arts, crafts, tasty street food plus the Ride Leicester cycling area. River Soar & Mile Straight hosts the colourful narrow boat rally, boat trips, canoes, boat rides, demonstrations and the opportunity to view and buy work from local artists at Art on The River.

Castle Gardens includes children's activities with an eco and environmental focus and after last year’s success the return of the Broken Records Swing Festival.
Paddle In The Park

Paddle In The Park is the annual Paddlesport Festival for everyone to take part in! And you don’t need a pass to turn up. Simply come down and watch the action for free! If you haven’t tried paddling before and are looking for a fun, family day out, then you can buy Start Paddling Passes…

So weather willing .. obviously :-) ... my plan is
Sat: Paddle from Whiles Lane, Birstall (10:00-15:00) into Leicester Centre up the GUC and the Riverside Festival, have a wander around, grab a burger and ice cream and generally chillax before paddling back to Birstall going down the river, past the National Space Centre and over a couple of weirs. Distance maybe ~3 to 4 miles each way??, generally flat grade <1.

Any peeps welcome to join me. Alternatively, if anyone wants to start south of Leicester (Jubilee Park Enderby/Aylestone Meadows) and paddle all the way through to Birstall, I can offer a shuttle run back to parked cars?

Sun: Drive to Holme Pierrpont, have a walk around, try some demo boats/SUPs and avoid the white water!. Happy to take up canoe if anyone is around and fancies a paddle into Nottingham?
