I now realize that the reservation game appears to involve buying days in advance to get the nights you actually want. And then either dump the early days or maybe just not use them. I'm not a huge fan of the rec reservation system as I've seen campground sites (non-river) sit empty when the system shows full. Obviously the Labor Day weekend was always going to be challenging to get, but we tried to book anyway with the hope to bring the kids down for a family float. I was successful...
