Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn says Conor Benn feels like he’ll be improved for a rematch against Chris Eubank Jr.

Conor Benn is eager to get right back into the ring with Chris Eubank Jr, as Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn tells Sky Sports. Following the success of the first fight which ended in a disappointing loss for Benn, he’s looking to redeem himself as soon as possible as they target a September 27 fight date for the rematch.

“I know September 27, back at Spurs, is a date that he [Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh] has put forward and proposed. We’re ready, really. We signed the contract for two fights,” promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents Benn, told Sky Sports. “Conor’s just desperate to run it back. He feels like he’s going to improve a lot going into that fight. [It was] his first fight in 14, 15 months, at 160lbs.”

Both Benn and Eubank Jr originally penned a two-fight deal but for now the rematch isn’t officially on just yet. So if Benn doesn’t manage to secure a second fight with Eubank Jr, there are alternative plans in the works for Benn to revisit a shot at the WBC welterweight title which will be on the line in a fight between reining champion Mario Barrios and Manny Pacquiao.

Speaking on Pacquiao’s situation, Hearn is highly critical of the WBC for slotting Pacquiao in at #5 in their rankings out of nowhere when Pacquiao has been retired from the sport for years now. Even still, if Pacquiao were to manage to score a win over Barrios to become champion once again, it’s a fight that they’ll obviously have to consider pursuing even if Hearn believes that a very dangerous fight for Pacquiao at this point in time.
