‘I want my revenge’: Benn believes he can knock out Eubank Jr in rematch
Conor Benn wants his rematch with Chris Eubank Jr, and is sure he can get a knockout.
Conor Benn’s first loss in a pro boxing ring came this past Saturday to Chris Eubank Jr, but it was in defeat that Benn earned the most respect and admiration he’s seen thus far in his career.
Benn (23-1, 14 KO) went to war with the naturally bigger Eubank Jr (35-3, 25 KO) for 12 rounds, losing on unanimous scores of 116-112. Having watched the fight back, Benn has said he felt the scores were a bit wide, and that he had himself winning by a point.
A rematch between the two seems only natural, as not only did they do big business at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but it was a genuinely great fight, a brutal war where both raised their stock as attractions, and particularly in their rivalry with one another.
Benn believes he can stop Eubank Jr if the two fight again, which is what he wants.
“Yeah, I want the revenge, man. I want my revenge,” he said after the fight. “I think inactivity played a big part. It’s quite hard because obviously, the past two-and-a-half years, what had gone on — not fighting back here and then coming home to this. It took me back. In a good way and in a bad way.
“I’m sitting here going, ‘Oh my gosh, this is unbelievable.’ It was just a lot of first times for me. First stadium fight, first time fighting back here in three years, first fight at 160. I had Eubank hurt multiple times; three, four times in there, noticeably. Just couldn’t get the finish. I’ll make sure next time the finish is there.”
Benn has noted that a second option, should the rematch not come to pass, would be going back down to 147 lbs and facing Mario Barrios for the WBC title.
