‘I’m the best fighter’: Teofimo looks to show why he’s the top 140-pounder against Barboza

Teofimo Lopez has no doubts he’ll beat Arnold Barboza and continue his winning ways.

Teofimo Lopez sits down with Mike Coppinger to talk about his upcoming fight against Arnold Barboza and what he’s looking to do with his career going forward. Lopez suggests a win over Barboza is a foregone conclusion and he looks to take on even bigger fights going forward. Here’s some of what he had to say below.

On what he’s looking to prove against Arnold Barboza

“What I’m looking to prove come May 2nd, that I’m the best fighter. I’m the best fighter in my weight class, I’ve successfully defended my world titles twice already in that weight class and I look forward to defending it a third time.”

On turning up in his best form when people count him out like in his fight against Josh Taylor

“I treated him like an amateur. No disrespect, he’s a good fighter, great fighter, but I just know and the same thing is going to happen to Arnold Barboza. I just know. It’s not about experience, it’s just a feeling.”

On what the plan is him going forward under his new multi-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh

“I always like going after the biggest challenges and the giants of the new divisions and of this world of boxing. So whoever you think is the best, we would love to face. Anyone that’s at ‘47, anyone that’s at ‘54, anyone that’s at ‘40. We’re at that level where we deserve to face everybody. I think we bring a lot of hype and a lot of excitement to the sport.

“Everybody has to do their job, everybody has to win, and as long as all those things happen and they go to plan, the best and the best are going to fight — it’s almost like a tournament — and we’ll see each other, the best fighting the best, whoever is the last man standing, the beginning of next year.”
