JIMENEZ STOPS AKBAR, WINS WBF ASIA-PACIFIC TITLE

BOGO CITY, CEBU, PHILIPPINES – John Kevin Jimenez (9-2,4KO’s) returned to the win column when he decked Fasiol Akbar of Indonesia (10-9-1, 3 KO’s) in the second round with a hard shot to the ribs.
Referee Tony Pesons signaled the end at the 27 second mark of the second round. Akbar, whose birth name is Muhamad Rexi Akbar, was also knocked down in the opening round by a body shot.
Jimenez bounced back from his second round KO loss last December to Joseph Sumabong in Naga City, Cebu. Jimenez was awarded the WBF Asia Pacific minimumweight title. He is also a former Philippine Youth champion.
The fight was held Wednesday at the Don Celestino Martinez Sr. Sports and Cultural Center in Bogo City and promoted by Martinez-Chao Sy Promotions.
For the undercard:
John Ver Espra (5-3, 2 KO’s) upset the previously undefeated Jeric Noynay (5-1,1KO) by split decision and claimed the Philippine Boxing Federation light flyweight title. Noynay was knocked down in six. The judges’ scores – RomarEmbodo – 78-73 and Rolando Mendoza – 77-74 for Espra, while Tony Pesons scored 77-74 for Noynay.
Eugene Noynay beat Marlon Alejandro by unanimous verdict, Vincent Mapait and Klinton Pongase ended in a technical draw in the first round after an accidental clash of heads broke Mapait’s nose and in the opening bout, Jariel Quisto stopped Jovel Siervo in the second round.
