‘Fundora is the next target’: Zayas eyes mandatory title shot

Xander Zayas says Sebastian Fundora either has to fight him or vacate his WBO title.

Xander Zayas was in attendance for Sebastian Fundora’s latest win over the weekend and wasted no time in the aftermath in saying that he’s targeting his title shot against Fundora next.

“I feel like everybody knows why I’m here,” Zayas said. “Sebastian Fundora is the next target, I’m #1 at the WBO and I’m ready to take over the titles. There’s no option for [Fundora]. He has to fight me or vacate, and if he vacates I’ll fight whoever is next, whoever they put in the list — it doesn’t matter who it is. But I want Fundora.”

When then asked about those who may feel he’s moving too fast and may not yet be ready to take on a challenge like Fundora, Zayas had this to say.

“I feel like everybody at some point has doubters, and some point everybody don’t believe in you. I believe in myself, my team believe in me, we know what we can do inside that ring and we’ll be ready to put on a show whenever we get that opportunity against Fundora.”

If Zayas gets his title shot against Fundora next, it’ll easily be the biggest challenge he’s faced thus far in his professional career given the experience and dimensions that Fundora carries.
