‘It’s a daunting occasion for him’: Kambosos believes the moment too big for Wyllie
George Kambosos confident his experience will carry the day against Jake Wyllie.
Leading into this weekend’s fight against replacement opponent Jake Wyllie, the mighty George Kambosos Jr talks about focusing on the task at hand before he’ll look to move on the bigger and better things to come.
Kambosos on whether he’ll keep the same game plan for Wyllie that he had for Yordan
“The game plan is the game plan, I’m very good at adapting. I’ve been in there with the best of the best so whatever he brings to the table, we’re ready. Ready to adapt, ready to handle our business and it’s a daunting occasion for him and I believe he’ll make a lot of mistakes, silly mistakes.
“I’ve seen one fight where he was put out cold, so it’s George Kambosos Jr he’s coming up against.”
On his experience compared to Wyllie
“My experience is going to be way too much already. Just signing the dotted line to fight George Kambosos is a daunting task. So I’m focused on my job on Saturday night, I’m ready for 12 rounds, I’m ready for whatever comes to the table. I’ve been here before countless times, there’s too much on the line for Jake Wyllie to beat me.”
On Wyllie saying he’s seen flaws in him
“He doesn’t believe that. I asked him what flaws, which fight, which opponent? Lomachenko? Devin Haney? Is Jake Wyllie Devin Haney? Is Jake Wyllie Lomachenko? Is he Teofimo Lopez? No. So there’s a difference in these guys finding the flaws and the holes with me and a difference between this guy trying to find holes in me.”
On who he could fight next
“One fight at a time...all the Hitchins talk...all the Lopez talk, all the Davis talk — everyone wants to fight George Kambosos so all that can wait. I’ve given the opportunity to this guy and this is the guy I’m focused on.”
