Daud Yordan out, Kambosos vs Wyllie set for Mar. 22
Super lightweight knockout artist Jake Wyllie will take on George Kambosos Jr on less than a week’s notice
Matchroom Boxing announced this morning that veteran Daud Yordan, slated to face George Kambosos Jr this Saturday, “was taken to the hospital and ruled out on medical grounds.” “Ferocious” will instead take on 24-year-old Jake Wyllie in their Sydney main event.
Wyllie (16-1, 15 KO) made his pro debut in 2020 and remains in the building stage, notably beating Dana Coolwell in his fifth fight and suffering a stoppage loss to 0-2 Faavesi Isaako four fights later. None of his last seven fights have seen the fifth round; his most recent, a February 26th bout with Allan Villanueva, ended after three due to a clash of heads.
Diminished though he may seem, Kambosos (21-3, 10 KO) represents an enormous step up in class even without taking the short notice and quick turnaround into account. That said, the bout at least presents a more interesting narrative than a fight with the aging, undersized Yordan and gives Wyllie a chance to get his name out there. Even if Wyllie falls short as expected, anything short of a violent early-round wipeout should be a boon to his career.
