Earlier today it was announced that 2023 All Japan National Champion Keidai Nakayama (0-0) [中山慧大] had turned professional, doing so with Takashi Edagawa’s Muto Gym. The talented 22 year old went 40-13 (14) in the unpaid ranks, with his national triumph in 2023 being his stand out achievement. To win that title he scored several wins of note, with notable wins against Reito Tsutsumi, the brother of Hayato Tsutusmi, and Ryang Ho Han, himself now a professional with a 3-0 (2) record
Nakayama revealed that he had made his decision last year, after being one of the main sparring partners for Ryosuke Nishida (10-0, 2) [西田凌佑], ahead of his world title bout with Emmanuel Rodriguez in May 2024.
At a press conference to announce his decision to turn professional, the fighter stated "I will keep up with the training at Muto Gym and do my best to become a world champion in the future." and admitted that he sees Han, who is now a stablemate, as a rival, and will attempt to catch up to him in the professional ranks.
Notably Nakayama hasn’t yet secured his B Class license, though is scheduled for his B license pro-test on March 16th, where he will share the ring with the aforementioned Nishida. If, as expected, he manages to pass his test he will debut as a professional on April 13th on a very notable card at the Sumiyoshi Ward Center, against South Korean Ji Yong Kim (4-2-1, 1) in a 6 rounder.
