Brandun Lee signs with Queensberry Promotions

Brandun Lee has inked a deal with Frank Warren’s team.

American super lightweight Brandun Lee has signed a deal with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions.

The 25-year-old Lee (28-0, 23 KO) hasn’t fought in 15 months. He first started to make his mark on ShoBox cards, and then was a regular on Premier Boxing Champions shows.

Most recently, he beat Pedro Campa by 10-round decision. Lee had built some momentum as an exciting prospect on the rise, but did see that peter out some, and obviously the long spell of inactivity hasn’t helped that, but getting active again will obviously help.

It’s also a notable move because until now, Warren’s company hasn’t reached out beyond the United Kingdom very much for talent signings. The company also announced the signing of Nathan Lugo, an American amateur standout who turned pro as a super middleweight on an Overtime Boxing show in April.

It would seem that Queensberry are looking to expand their map for talent signings. Whether this indicates Warren looking to promote in the United States — as Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn has done — remains to be seen, but this is a new time in boxing, too, with Saudi backing propping up cards ostensibly promoted by Warren and/or Hearn.

That could simply indicate Warren seeing a chance to expand the roster for more options on those cards as well as his own in the UK. Lee is a promising fighter who could become a contender quickly in a currently volatile (and interesting) division, Lugo is an actual prospect, these are good moves just talent-wise.
