‘There is so much corruption’: Ryan Garcia claims retirement in face of expected suspension

Ryan Garcia is expected to face a suspension from NYSAC for his positive drug test while Garcia claims corruption.

Count Ryan Garcia as the latest young star in boxing to claim retirement from the sport. Rumors have been swirling that the fighter will officially be suspended by NYSAC for at least some period of time following his failed drug test leading into his bout with Devin Haney, and it would appear all of the drama surrounding Garcia has become too much for him to bear.

In a series of posts on X, Garcia highlights numerous issues he’s dealing with both inside and outside of boxing, and specifically claimed that his legal dietary supplements were tainted which caused his drug test failure. And with his biggest career win over Devin Haney looking likely to be overturned to a no contest at the very least, Garcia claims he’s done with the corruption in the sport.

“Y’all may catch me out and about but as far as boxing I don’t know. There is so much corruption I’m over it. I may do acting or singing I’ll still be training but I’m hurt and done with it and everyone. The sad part is I’m a great boxer and I entertain and knock people out. I’m sad because I (love) boxing,” Garcia posted.

Garcia would then confirm his intention to retire by explicitly posting as much.

“I’m officially retired.”

Naturally most won’t put much stock into Garcia’s supposed retirement as he’s still quite young and there will continue to be plenty money on the table for him in the sport he’s grown up in — not to mention that it’s becoming quite the fad for young fighters to shout ‘retirement’ on social media only to immediately about-face, as we’ve recently seen with Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson.

Interestingly enough, it seemingly won’t be only Garcia who goes on some form of hiatus here (whether by force or otherwise) as Devin Haney also took to social media to say he would be taking a couple years off from the sport before he intends to return for a Garcia rematch.

“I’ma take some time, spend some of my money,” Haney posted on X. “Travel the world and I’ll be back in two years after Ryan suspension and we can fight again.”
