Tatsuyohi picks up win in Osaka, Nakano wins at Korakuen Hall

Earlier today in Japan there was a number of shows, in what was a busy day for boxing in the country, despite not being a big day.

One if them was in Osaka, and promoted by Osaka Teiken. The main event saw the unbeaten Juiki Tatsuyoshi (16-0-1, 10) [辰吉寿以輝] score his latest win. The 27 year old second generation fighter was up against experienced Thai southpaw Chaiwat Buatkrathok (41-10, 27), and the bout was certainly not a good one. The fight was marred by a headclash in round 3, which left Tatsuyoshi with a bad cut over the left eye. The cut wasn’t bad enough to end the fight, but did leave Tatsuyoshi looking a bloodied mess as he out fought and out worked the Thai. After 8 rounds there was no doubting the winner, with Tatsuyoshi taking the decision 77-75, 78-74 and 79-73. Despite the win his father, former world champion Joichiro Tatsuyoshi, was highly critical stating “You're not good at it. You stand right in front of him, so he gets straight lefts. I thought I taught you, but I can't. You can't win the title as you are now.”

The only other bout on this show of real note was a win for 2022 Rookie of the Year winner Kirei Yasumura (8-2, 3) [安村綺麗], who stopped 38 year old Anucha Tongbau (6-4, 4), dropping him 3 times in the opening round.

Over in Tokyo, at Korakuen Hall, we had a Japan Vs China and Thailand show. The main event here saw the highly touted Mikito Nakano (10-0, 9) [中野幹士] take a 7th round TKO win over Thai visitor Sathaporn Saart (13-2, 8), in what was Nakano’s second bout of 2024, and we suspect he’ll be hunting a title fight before the end of the year. Sadly for Japanese fans this was the only win for the country, as Chinese fighters picked up 3 wins on the card.

The biggest surprise on the card saw Fan Zhang (7-1-1, 4) [张凡] over-come former Japanese title challenger Masaya Tamayama (14-5, 8) [玉山将也], with Zhang taking an 8 round decision here. The other Chinese fighters to pick up a win were Lite Dawuxi (7-0, 5) [达吾西利特], who scored a 2nd round TKO against Eikichi Ueno (4-3-2, 0) [上野永吉], and Yuankun Gong (1-1, 1), who scored an opening round win over Neo Kikuchi (1-3) [菊池音央].

A third show, a much less notably one, took place in Sumida ward. This card, a Dangan all 4 rounder show, was not headlined by a fight as such but instead a talk lead by special guest Kenshiro Teraji (23-1, 14) [寺地 拳四朗] and surprise guest Yoko Gushiken. The two men had a sit down event, with Teraji admitting that he still wasn’t 100% following surgery, and still didn’t have his next bout penciled in, though admitted it could take place at either Light Flyweight and Flyweight.
