“I want to see Conor come back, man. There’s nothing better than when a guy as big as Conor McGregor, falls short, loses and is able to pull himself back and win”.

Michael Chandler would love nothing more than to defend the UFC lightweight title against Conor McGregor if victorious this weekend against Charles Oliveira.

Chandler, who will take on Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title at UFC 262, admits that the businessman in him wants McGregor to beat Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 on July 10 to set up a superfight against Forbes’ 2020/2021 richest athlete in the world.

“They’re #1 & #1A in my book,” Chandler said of Poirier and McGregor, via TMZ Sports. “I want to see Conor come back, man. There’s nothing better than when a guy as big as Conor McGregor, falls short, loses and is able to pull himself back and win. It’s a huge story, it’s a huge storyline.”

“Obviously, the athlete in me wants to fight the winner of [Poirier vs. McGregor], the businessman in me wants to fight Conor of course, but all of it hinges upon me having a phenomenal performance on May 15.”

McGregor will look to avenge his 2021 TKO loss to Poirier and recement his position as the best lightweight in the world. If he does, a fight against Chandler will most certainly be on the cards.

UFC 262: Oliveira vs. Chandler takes place this Saturday, May 15 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
