Kanat Islam's planned February bout is off

0 4
Just over a week ago we reported that unbeaten Kazakh contender Kanat Islam (27-0, 21) [Ислам Канат] was set to return to the ring in February. Now, sadly, that appears to be off, and the 36 year old will not be in action as previously planned.

The bout is said to be off due to "health problems", and Islam's training with Roger Roma is currently suspended as a result.

The bout, which was planned for February 20th, would have been Islam's first since October 2019, when he defeated Walter Kautondokwa. Sadly however as the days and weeks tick by it seems harder and harder to imagine Islam will ever fight again, never mind fight someone noteworthy.

This is the latest in a line of dates that have been pencilled in for Islam before falling by the wayside.

The hope, way back in 2019, was for Islam to face Kautondokwa for a second time in early 2020, he was then pencilled in for an October 2020 bout, then had hoped to return in December 2020 or January 2021, then there was the February date.

As injuries, lay offs and father time catch up with the Kazakh, we really do wonder whether he should just hang them up and move on with life. Especially given how regular these delays, and issues with his health seem to be.
