UFC 241 video: Anthony Pettis and Nate Diaz get set to throw down in Anaheim

0 6

UFC 241 is less than a week away and the anticipation is rising as a host of big names converge on Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., ahead of a packed night of bouts on the West Coast.

Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic are facing off in a heavy-duty UFC championship rematch, and Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa are fighting in a middleweight battle that promises to deliver an explosion of violence. But sandwiched between those two titanic tussles is a matchup that perhaps has even larger significance for the UFC in the months ahead.

Nate Diaz is making his long-awaited return to the octagon. Diaz hasn’t been seen in action since his UFC 202 loss to Conor McGregor in August 2016, and he’s set to make his comeback against former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in the co-main event.

Pettis (22-8 MMA, 9-7 UFC) seems to be specializing in exciting showcase fights these days, with each of his last four outings earning him post-fight bonuses. Diaz (19-11 MMA, 14-9 UFC), if successful, could kickstart serious talks about a trilogy fight with a certain Irishman. But there’s also been a simmering rivalry between the pair that goes back to “Showtime’s” time as the UFC lightweight champion.

Now the uneasy atmosphere between the pair is set to be addressed head-on as the two former lightweight aces face off at welterweight in what should be a crowd-pleasing clash. Check out the UFC’s promo for the fight in the video above as the two fighters tell the story that will see them meet inside the cage.
