The middleweight title unification bout between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya is set for Octobe.

The UFC middleweight title now has an official date for its unification.

On Friday, the company officially announced that reigning champion Robert Whittaker will take on interim titleholder, Israel Adesanya, in a battle to finally settle their dispute.

Victorious in his last nine bouts, Robert Whittaker (20-4) is still undefeated ever since he moved up to the middleweight division back in November 2014, making his last loss a TKO defeat to welterweight Stephen Thompson in February of the same year. Afterwards, the ‘Reaper’ bested notable names such Derek Bruson, Ronaldo Souza, and Yoel Romero twice, most recently via split decision, in June 2018.

Rising middleweight sensation Israel Adesanya (17-0) has yet to suffer a loss in his professional career. He boasts six Octagon wins already, including a unanimous decision over former legendary champion Anderson Silva, which the ‘Stylebender’ followed up with a thrilling unanimous decision against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236 in April, when he won the interim strap. That fight was formed when Whittaker nursed an abdominal hernia which required emergency surgery, thus cancelling a planned title defense vs. Gastelum.

Now, Whittaker and Adesanya are expected to meet at UFC 243’s main event on Saturday, October 5th. So far, no other bouts have been added to the card. A venue and other details are expected to be announced shortly.
