Ilir Latifi out of UFC Hamburg co-main event vs. Glover Teixeira
Injury to Ilir Latifi has forced a late switch for the UFC Hamburg co-main event.
Having already lost the original main event, the UFC Hamburg co-main event has also been nixed.
Light heavyweight contender Ilir Latifi pulled out due to injury, leaving Glover Teixeira without an opponent. However, reports from Combate and MMA Fighting confirm that Corey Anderson has agreed to fly to Germany and step in on short notice.
Anderson (10-4) is coming off a dominant unanimous decision win over Patrick Cummins at UFC Atlantic City in April. The victory snapped a two-fight losing skid, which saw him knocked out by both Jimi Manuwa and Ovince Saint Preux.
Teixeira (27-6) bounced back from a brutal knockout loss to Alexander Gustafsson by impressively stopping Misha Cirkunov last December. The 38-year-old once challenged for the UFC light heavyweight title, losing a decision to Jon Jones at UFC 172.
UFC Fight Night: Hamburg takes place on Sunday, July 22nd and airs live on FS1. The main event features former light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua against Anthony Smith, who is filling in for Volkan Oezdemir, after visa issues led to him being moved off the card and to a fight with Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 227.
