Joe Rogan: Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin are ‘terrible fights’ for Conor McGregor

Joe Rogan talks about the possibility of Conor McGregor continuing his boxing run after the Floyd Mayweather fight.

Even after his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last August 26th, there are those who expect Conor McGregor to continue his boxing aspirations. One of those people is UFC analyst Joe Rogan.

During Saturday’s episode of his Fight Companion podcast alongside Eddie Bravo and comedian Jim Norton, Rogan pointed out how McGregor would always be up for a challenge, no matter who it would be against.

“I don’t think [Conor is done boxing],” Rogan said (via MMA Fighting). “Look, he went the very first fight against the greatest ever and he didn’t look too bad. If there’s a legit, big fight - say if Canelo Alvarez steps up and says that he wants to fight Conor McGregor, [Conor] might do it.”

Mayweather isn’t known as a knockout artist, but he was able to score his first stoppage win in six years against McGregor. But, against known finishers such as Alvarez and even Gennady Golovkin, McGregor could be very seriously hurt in the process, says Rogan.

“It wouldn’t be a smart move. The difference between Canelo and Floyd - Floyd was just a brilliant boxer,” Rogan pointed out. “Canelo is a murderous puncher and he’ll f--k you up. He’ll hurt you.”

“[Golvokin] is not a good fight for him either. Neither Canelo nor Golvkin is a good fight for him. They’re terrible fights for him. Those guys are different.”

Alvarez and Golovkin fought to a controversial draw on Saturday night. Most notably because of the questionable tallying of veteran judge Adalaide Byrd, scoring the fight 118-110 in favor of Alvarez.
