Canelo-Golovkin to hit the big screen

0

The middleweight showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will show in theaters.

The September 16th middleweight title fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is headed to theaters, approximately 400 in total across the country as reported by ESPN.

"Canelo versus Golovkin is a sure-fire, action-packed event that will leave fans on the edge of their seats, and what better way than to watch this event live on a big movie theater screen," Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya said.

The broadcast in theaters, which will begin at 8pm ET, will be exactly the same as the four-fight broadcast you’d see from the comfort of your own home on HBO pay-per-view, but will presumably cost you a little less.

"The fight against Gennady Golovkin on Sept. 16 is one of the biggest fights of my career, and I am glad that all my loyal fans will have the opportunity to support me not only at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas but also in movie theaters across the country," Alvarez said. "That makes me even more motivated to offer fans a fight full of high intensity on a very special date for Mexicans on Mexican Independence Day weekend."

I’m not certain how many people actually go to movie theaters to watch fights — like, I never would — but it’s an option, and options are good things. The price of tickets for the theater showing are going to vary by location, but a full list of participating theaters can be found at fathomevents.com.
