Manager adamant Jon Jones did not ‘cheat or use steroids’

On Wednesday afternoon, Jon Jones’ manager, Malki Kawa, released a statement regarding his client’s positive drug test on social media. Kawa made it clear he is still behind Jones and said the UFC light heavyweight champ did not use steroids ahead of UFC 214.

Jon Jones’ manager isn’t happy with the criticism the UFC light heavyweight champion has received since his recent drug test failure.

Malki Kawa, head of First Round Management, released a statement on his Facebook page Wednesday afternoon. Kawa made it clear he is still behind Jones and never won’t be.

“The amount of hate that everyone has towards jon jones with out any due process is beyond me,” Kawa wrote. “The messages I keep getting saying to ‘drop him’ or ‘don't take up for him’ goes to show me how low this society is.

“I stand with bones! For anyone to think I would ‘drop’ him like Him and I aren't brothers is stupid. ... I'm with him more now than the night he won the belt.... being there for the good times is what everybody would do. But who's really there when times get bad?”

News broke on Thursday that Jones, who beat Daniel Cormier for the 205-pound title in the UFC 214 main event last month, tested positive in an in-competition drug test administered by USADA, the UFC’s anti-doping partner, the day before the Cormier rematch (July 28).

TMZ, who first reported the positive drug test, also stated Jones popped for the steroid turinabol. The UFC and USADA have yet to confirm what banned substance was found in the pound-for-pound king’s system.

Kawa, though, is the first to defend Jones. The manager is adamant Jones, 30, did not use a performance enhancer ahead of UFC 214.

“I know how hard he worked to get back to where he's at. This is definitely heartbreaking,” he wrote. “He def didn't cheat or use steroids.

“I'm not sure why this is happening to him again, or how even, but We'll get to the bottom of it.”
