Trainer gives update on McGregor’s camp

Owen Roddy says nobody realizes what Conor McGregor is ready to do on Aug. 26.

Conor McGregor’s striking coach, Owen Roddy, says things couldn’t be going any better as McGregor prepares to take on Floyd Mayweather later this month. Roddy tells ESPN that McGregor is “killing it” in sparring sessions and that he’s doing so well that he can go as many rounds as they want because Conor isn’t even getting touched.

Roddy continues by saying that McGregor is becoming twice the fighter he was with each passing week and that he can’t wait for McGregor to show the world what he has in store for Mayweather come August 26.

McGregor’s camp opted not to enlist a more experienced, traditional boxing trainer to assist in McGregor’s preparation as they feel that the striking in boxing, once you take out the kicks, is similar enough that they can keep their team as presently constituted.

But Roddy believes that it’s actually Conor’s fighting IQ that will carry the day for him against Mayweather, saying that Conor is second to none.

"I've watched him for 16 years. I've watched every single person that's come into the gym and it doesn't matter what level they are -- straight up boxers, high-level amateurs, Thai boxers, world-class MMA fighters -- I've watched Conor read them and pick them apart time after time. You can't coach that. I've never seen anybody else able to do it. There's no doubt to me he can do it to any man."

Floyd may not be just any man, though, but that certainly isn’t taking any wind out of Team McGregor’s sails. They are as confident as can be that McGregor is going to shock the world in a few weeks.

"I don't think people know what's coming on the 26th. I honestly don't. I don't think anybody realizes what is coming."
