EXTRA CAS confirms Russian bobsledder doping, disqualified from Games

Pyeongchang, South Korea (dpa) - Russian bobsledder Nadezhda Sergeeva has tested positive for a banned substance and is disqualified from the Winter Olympics, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirms.Russian officials had Friday announced a positive test for the metabolic agent trimetazidine and said on Saturday Sergeeva had handed back her credentials and left the Olympic village.CAS said in a statement Sergeeva "is found guilty of an anti-doping violation." She has admitted the offence and accepted a provisional suspension beyond the period of the Games. Proceedings will continue before CAS between the international bobsleigh federation IBSF and Sergeeva after the end of the Games, CAS said.Sergeeva was tested at the Games on February 18, three days before finishing 12th with Anastasia Kocherzhova in the women‘s bobsleigh. Russian curler Aleksandr Krushelnitckii has already been stripped of his Olympic bronze medal in the mixed doubles for taking the banned substance meldonium.
