This Latvian skydiver took a drone 1,082 feet into the air before jumping back to Earth
Good news if jumping out of a plane has become too passé for you: Now you can jump off a hovering drone.
The Aerones drone company from Latvia lifted skydiver Ingus Augstkalns to a height of 1,082 feet before he let go and made it to the ground safely. It’s the first instance of a person jumping from a drone in flight, and could be the new way skydivers enjoy their hobby in the future.
On the one hand this seems totally awesome, but on the other you just can’t help but imagine all the things that could go horribly wrong. If the drone cut out at all during the ascent (he took off from a telecommunications tower) then you’re free falling without enough time to have the parachute deploy safely. That’s before we starting thinking about human error on the part of the pilot.
This one’s for the daredevil in your life, but no thanks.
