New Yorkers love their teams so much, they’ve named their dogs Knicks, Jeter, and worse
But they are still good dogs.
Today, in a bout of extreme productivity, I stumbled upon this article about a New York City dog name database. The page is basically a giant word cloud that allows you to scroll over and see names of all the licensed dogs in New York City. You can also look for them in the search box, which is exactly what I did.
Turns out New Yorkers love to name their dogs after famous athletes, and who can blame them? Melo is a great dog’s name!
Melo - 41
Carmelo - 14
Jeter - 51
Henrik - 5
Tiki - 25
Eli - 61
Odell - 1
Bernie - 46
Mariano - 2
Thor - 89 (OK, maybe not all of these are named after that Thor.)
Also, there are two dogs named Giant, 27 dogs named Jet, 51 dogs named Ranger, 29 dogs named Yankee, one dog named Mets and yes, even two dogs named Knicks. Sadly, there are no dogs named Kristaps OR Porzingas. Someone should get on that. Also of note, there are 26 dogs named Lala.
What’s the strangest dog name you found on the map?
