Loul Deng for Bismack Biyombo? Are the Lakers being swayed by media to choose Lonzo Ball no matter what if they land the 1st pick?
The Lakers obviously do not have much to work with in terms of available assets, but here are some creative realistic trades I hope the Laker front office considers.
1. Trade Luol Deng and Tarik Black's non guaranteed contract and #28 pick for Bismack Biyombo and Mario Hezonja. The reason why Lakes do this trade is to get a non proven shooter in Hezonja. We aren't getting someone at #28 that has as much potential than what Hezonja offers. The magic do this trade to get a veteran wing to pair with Aaron gordon. They can use the Tarik Black contract in a trade(maybe they trade elfrid payton if they get deaaron fox/dsj). Magic fans know biyombo isn't getting playing time when they have a great center in Nikola Vucevic. Both Deng and Biyombo earn the same amount of money and years.
2. Julius Randle's contract extension is coming up and you know it will cost over $18 million per year. That't the standard set by these crazy gm's over the past few years(Allen Crabbe, Deng, Biyombo, Turner, Noah,Kanter). A few places to offer are the Brooklyn Nets(no young big man talent, Utah Jazz(Favors body detoriating), Charlotte, Indiana(possible Pg13 trade). Though Randle did improve slightly, his defense and lack of jumpshot will limit him. Look at the playoffs this year. Most of the power forwards are floor spacers. Power forwards who only rebound usually are off the bench.
Since the Lakers signed Mozgov and Deng to big contracts, there's not much to deal with. We don't want to trade our young core, which only( Russell, Ingram, Zubac should be the only untouchables). Clarkson is turning 25 and is a good role player, but he is what he is now. Nance is very valuable to us, but he may be thrown into a deal that makes sense. May 16. The day we are all watching the screen and holding our lucky possesions. Having a top 3 pick is the goal and I'll be happy with number 1 and 2. The thing is that I believe #3 pick will be the best option for us. Assuming boston gets fultz and Phx will defintely choose Jackson, Ball will fall into our lap and we won't get critized of picking lonzo over those two. If we get the first pick, personally I think Markelle Fultz is the best player to come out since Karl Anthony Towns. You can say Simmons, but with his absent jumper, Markelle ascends for me. He virtually has no weakness, except his average defense.
If we get the 1st pick, Magic Johnson will be pressured by the media to take Lonzo. It's almost like a foregone conclusion that we have to pick Lonzo if he's on the board, even if Fultz is way more superior. The media has painted the image of Lonzo as a Magic-Johnson type player who makes everyone better. The flashiness of the full court passes and lobs make great highlight clips and those triump over Fultz underrated season(no matter record). Fultz was basically in the same shoes as D'Angelo Russell this year. Both had no spacing( only Nick young had good three point percentage) and had tons of blown assists(dropped pass, miss dunks(ahem Mozgov).
