Georgia transfer Somto Cyril commits to Miami
By JAMES MADDEN
Miami has landed its first commit in the transfer portal from Georgia commit Somto Cyril, he announced on social media on Sunday. A 6-foot-11 center originally from Nigeria, Cyril averaged 9.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in his second season at Georgia.
Cyril was originally committed to Kentucky in high school, but following John Calipari’s departure, he de-committed from the Wildcats and committed to Georgia.
A tenacious defender and rim protector, Cyril was one of the top centers available in the portal and ranked inside the top-20 in 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings.
Coming off a 26-9 record in his first season as a head coach, Miami head coach Jai Lucas is reloading a front court and roster that will lose Malik Reneau and Ernest Udeh Jr. to graduation.
Lucas, however, may have found his starting center for the next two years in Cyril, one of the most highly-coveted centers in the transfer portal.
