Notre Dame Basketball Coach Micah Shrewsberry Apologizes for Going 'Berserk' on Video
Notre Dame men's basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry was caught losing his cool on video.
According to People, the incident included Shrewsberry charging at a referee "as he exited the court after the controversial final moments of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s game against the California Golden Bears. The incident occurred on Friday, Jan. 2.
It's not clear whether the uni9versity will take any action against Shrewsberry for the incident, People reported. ESPN shared the video and wrote that the coach "needs to be held back from ref after loss." The video shows the coach being held back by players after a four-point play went against Notre Dame. Shrewsberry was described as going "berserk."

Micah Shrewsberry Has Since Apologized for His Behavior

On January 3, Notre Dame men's basketball released a statement from Shrewsberry apologizing for his behavior.
"I want to apologize for what took place immediately after the Cal game last night. My actions were inappropriate and not symbolic of the leader I strive to be and what Notre Dame expects of its coaches and educators," he wrote.

"I will learn from this lack of judgement and be better in the future. I want to apologize to our team, our University and its leaders, to Coach Madsen and his team, and to the ACC, as my actions were unacceptable.”
Fans did not have positive things to say in the comment thread. "Notre Dame should cancel all athletics. Such an embarrassment," wrote one. "Just refuse to play the next game or two. Show some solidarity with the football team..." another person wrote.
"But not to the refs? Interesting..." wrote another person, but other fans criticized the ref's call. "All good coach we move on," a more forgiving fan wrote.
Who Is Micah Shrewsberry?
According to his Notre Dame bio, "On March 24, 2023, an Indiana native came home to kickstart a new era of Notre Dame men’s basketball. Vice President and James E. Rohr Notre Dame Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick announced Micah Shrewsberry as the 18th head coach in Fighting Irish men’s basketball history."
The bio adds, "Shrewsberry brought a wealth of experience and success to the helm of the Notre Dame program. All-in-all he’s coached in six NCAA Tournaments, two NCAA Final Fours, five NBA Playoffs and two NBA Conference Finals – in addition to coaching all-NBA honorees Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown."
