Four-star forward Donovan Davis talks recruiting, visits

BY ZACH SMART

A versatile 6-foot-8 four man with a monstrous approach on the glass, Class of 2027 Freedom HS (WI) prospect Donovan Davis is currently hearing from Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa State, Iowa, and Marquette the most, he told ZAGSBLOG.

While he’s wide open at this stage of his recruitment, Davis has developed a rapport and built on his relationship with those five programs in particular.

Thriving with his knack for evoking space and a catch-and-shoot presence, the Wisconsin native will visit Nebraska this weekend.

Averaging 26 points, 11 boards and three assists during through the start of the 2025-26 season, Davis is slated for visits to Iowa State on January 2nd, followed by Wisconsin on January 3rd.

The four star recruit will make the two hour trek from his home to Milwaukee, as he has a visit to Marquette lined up for Feb. 7th.

While he impacts the game with a wide ranging skill set and has been on a tear wihile boasting gaudy numbers, its clear that individual accolades are meaningless to the Top-45 national recruit.

“I really just care about winning,” said Davis, whose recruitment ramped up considerably with his play for Team Herro this past summer.

“I do see my own stats at times, but I just want to win ultimately. I would say I’m really good at seeing the floor. I’m a cutter, a scorer. I take a lot of pride in playing high level defense. My mentality is to just be a leader. My focus is on getting everyone around me better.”

Davis broke down the programs he is currently hearing from at the most consistent pace:

Marquette: “A really good program. Their assistants are always texting me. When I get a call from them, I really just talk to all of them at once. Not just Coach (Shaka) Smart. It has been a lot of good talks with all of them across the entire staff. We talk about everything, beyond basketball and the program.

I think we have established a really good relationship. I’ve talked to most of them for about a year now.”

Nebraska: “I’ve been talking to coach (Fred) Hoiberg and (assisstant) coach Pat (Monaghan). I’ve been talking to them going back to the live period.

I’ve had a good relationship with them. It was really good to get out there. I am really excited to get down there. This time, I’m going to see them against Creighton on the visit. It should be a really good game, it is expected to be a good game. So, I’m excited about that snd really looking forward to it.”

Iowa State: “I’ve had a really good relationship with them and their staff. I talk to the coaches probably about twice a week. It’s a really good atmosphere out there. It is an environment you want to play in.

They want me to go in there as a 3-4. To be kind of like a wing four.”

Iowa: “They have a whole new staff. It has been a lot of good vibes with them. All of those coaches on staff there, they take things very seriously on the court.

Off the court, though, they definitely make you laugh. It’s pretty funny.

I started talking to them in June. I would be kind of like a versatile big with them, a big who can create space and his own moves.”

Wisconsin: “They were my first offer. Coach (Greg) Gard, he’s always calling me.

(Assistant) Coach (Sharif) Chambliss, he’s really been recruiting me the most.

“Hometown school, they want me to stay home. It’s been nothing but good vibes with them.”
