Judge decides fate of Glencoe basketball players' eligibility

0 15

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Glencoe High School students, banned by the State from playing basketball for alleged rule violations, were in court Friday afternoon in an attempt to get a judge to put a pause on that ban.

The five students recently transferred to the high school to play for the basketball team, which was around the same time that their AAU basketball coach had recently been named Glencoe's head coach.

The OSSAA said the students violated a rule that a coach cannot be linked to a player for a full year and voted to deny them eligibility.

Their parents sued to challenge the rule and asked a Payne County Judge to pause the kids' eligibility ban while the lawsuit plays out.

The judge heard testimony on Friday from some of those kids and their parents. Their lawyers also questioned OSSAA's executive director when he took the stand.

As of Friday evening, the judge ruled in favor of the players and put a pause on their eligibility ban.

News 4 will have more on this at 10 p.m. tonight.
